Inside the fortress with a historian to discover the most fascinating pages of Ischia's history
Learn how to decode the lines of history stamped on every single surface of the ancient medieval citadel where, until just 2 centuries ago, it was the only safe home for the people of Ischia. In 1500 there were as many as 13 churches on the small island and in 1700, according to a census, 1856 families lived there. The guided tour will take place through the paths that bring you to the Clarisse nunnery, with the annexed cemetery; the Cathedral with the Crypt that keeps the fading frescoes of Giotto’s school, the Bourbon prison, the museum with armors and instruments of torture. During the journey the guide will be able to capture the attention of the participants, revealing historical intrigues and mysteries that had as scenery these fabulous places.
